Think small daily gains that add up over time.

That's sort of the opposite of what most tipsters will try to sell you.

They're all about the big wins!

Don't get me wrong, I love a big win as much as the next guy but how often do you actually land them, how much do you have to stake to land one and is it profitable long term?

With my method we see small daily profits, some losses but not many, I'll go into this more later.

These small profits add up so we can cash out monthly or sometimes multiple times per month giving you actual profit you can spend!

I'm Phil and as the name of the site suggests this is lay betting strategy.

Lay betting is betting on a horse to lose, not win.

Don't worry if you're confused, I'll teach you everything you need to know.

Tried it and don't like it? Don't click off the page until you have read the full page
as this isn't your usual lay strategy.

Back when I started, I liked the idea of lay betting but as I later learned, you need the right strategy.

When I was introduced to it was a case of stake the same amount on the lay,
so we win the same with each winning lay.

This leads to some pretty big liabilities.

Right, I might be getting ahead of myself, let me explain how this works (if you know, you can skip this part)

Lay betting explained...

We're betting on a horse to lose, to do this we need to use a Betting Exchange (like Betfair, Smarkets etc.)

Say if there is a horse at 4/1, 5.0 decimal odds and we want to bet on it to lose.

Staking £10 on the lay means we win £10 (minus the exchange fee) if it does lose.

But if it wins, our liability to place the bet is £40.

So if the horse does win, we lose £40.

It's this strategy that most lay tipsters use and what took me a while to get my head around.

Risk £40 to win £10, what about if the odds were 7.0, risk £60 to win £10.

Yep, that's how it works.

What kept me interested in lay betting was the strike rate I could achieve.

Lots of wins, even at small amounts add up and can add up fast!

Focus on liability...

Instead of winning the same with each winning lay, I know the amount I'm risking per bet, known as liability.

The amount I win varies per winning lay but I know exactly how much a loss is going to cost me and by setting this amount it's easier to keep control of your bank.

I do vary my liability, which I will go over in the breakdown below.

Another major factor that my strategy combats is the price movement of the market.

Imagine a tipster telling you to stake £20 on a lay on a horse at 3.5, you're busy that day so don't pick up the email straight away, by the time you access the market the odds are now 5.5!

So you place the same bet to win the same but risk more, do you sit and wait and watch the markets to see if the price comes down, what happens if it keeps going up? Who has time to sit and watch the market? (I do sometimes as it gives me a great insight into betting patterns, but even I don't have time do to that every day).

My strategy uses Betfair SP, so every member of mine gets the same odds. It can mean we lose out if a horse drifts, it can mean we make more if the price shortens. The point is we know the risk, that stays the same and MORE IMPORTANTLY we call get the same profit.

None of this... I got on at these odds so I only lost this much when you hit a loser, we all know how much we're losing and this means we're all in the same position.

I do vary my staking with a max liability of £50, I tend to use £30/£40/£50 liabilities, there are rare occasions when I may do a £20 liability but as I said these are rare - we're talking odds on runners I think will lose.

To explain more, let me run through the last few weeks results.

Although we've lost 6 lay bets in a 25 day period, only 2 days ended in a loss.
